Young Love To Triumph Today

First race is off at 13h00

The last two Cape Town feature races of the season will take place at Kenilworth today with the running of the Econorisk Gr3 Final Fling Stakes over 1800m and the Western Province Nomads Gr3 Champagne Stakes over 1200m, both for fillies and mares.

The first is due off at 13h00.

The Final Fling Stakes pits Andre Nel-trained Young Love, one of the best-performing three-year-old fillies at the Cape this winter, against her elders and she is selected to come out tops.

Young Love ran in two of the three legs of the Winter Series for three-year-old fillies and won both, the Listed Sweet Chestnut Stakes over 1600m and the River Jetez Stakes over 2400m in which she beat Maria Querol, who captured the second leg.

Trainer Justin Snaith could have the final say in the Champagne Stakes in which his runners, Major Attraction and Phil’s Dancer, could fight it out.

Trainer Vaughan Marshall saddles Not In Doubt in the lucky last race. He is better than his last start over the 1000m. His three efforts prior to that outing were encouraging. His best effort to date has been with the blinkers on and he gets the headgear re-fitted today.

The son of Time Thief shows good speed in his races and if putting his best foot forward, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

Please note that Smanga Khumalo will not be riding today.
