Cape Racing Mourns A Leading Lady

A fairer sex groundbreaker

Cape horseracing’s first lady Steward and a past Regional Board Director of Gold Circle, the Western Province Owners and Trainers Association and the Western Province Grooms School Trust, Lita Futeran has passed away after a long illness.

Her family was involved in racing for decades.

Her father Martin was an owner/breeder and her grandfather a top owner in his time.

.The Futerans bred under the name of Marjeanne Stud, producing the likes of Please Be True, Best Of The Best, Making Mischief, Honeybunch, Lots ‘n Lots and Mon Cher.

Lita’s Dad Martin and Mom Jeanne were always said to have been her inspiration.

She told of childhood memories of visiting the racing stables on Sunday mornings to visit the likes of Jackie Bell, Johnny Cawcutt, Mike Bass and Glen Puller.

Lita is survived by her son Darby.

The Sporting Post extends condolences to Lita’s family and friends – MHDSRIP.
