Jaap Visser To Train From Milnerton

From the sands to where the turf meets the surf

Another former Flamingo Park trainer could soon be taking occupancy at Milnerton Training Centre.

With Corrie Lensley having settled at his  Cape base for six months, his former Northern Cape Champion colleague Jaap Visser may soon be headed in the same direction to the centre where the turf famously ‘meets the surf’.

The Upington-born former Griquas and Blue Bulls Fly-half and Fullback, who spent 18 years with the CID, has been Course Manager at Flamingo Park for four years.

A man who believes in the philosophy that hard work never killed anybody, says that he is still winding up logistical issues at the famous sand track and thanked Phumelela Management -particularly Jay Harrielall and Thomas Rasasamola – for being very good to him.

“We are all going to miss this racecourse but times change and we have to move on and adapt. We had options of the Vaal and the Eastern Cape, but as a family we felt we would be happiest in a larger centre. It’s not a simple matter – I’m 64 years of age and change is never easy. But I thankfully have my family and some good people behind me and horses are my life,” said the man who first started training some 40 years ago.

Jaap was Northern Cape Champion in the 2012/13 season.
