  • Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes

INTEGRITY has had her merit rating raised from 91 to 94 following her success in the Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes for fillies and mares over 1600m on the Fairview Turf Course on Friday 5 August.

The Handicappers took the view that 4th finisher DUPLICITY made for the best line horse, which leaves her unchanged on a mark of 85.  In assessing the race this way, 5th placed CELTIC NIGHT also runs to her mark, effectively making her a line horse as well and leaving her mark unaltered on 84.

Aside from the winner, two horses received rating increases.  GOLDEN DAH is up from 81 to 84, ensuring that she would meet her fellow Western Cape visitors DUPLICITY and CELTIC NIGHT on the correct terms in a handicap race, while DAME OF FLAMES goes up from 81 to 83.

There were rating drops for three runners.  2nd placed SANTA THERESE is down slightly from 104 to 103, PRINCESS KALISI was trimmed from 92 to 91, and lastly, CALANDRA was dropped slightly to 89 from 90.

  • Listed Memorial Mile

GRAZINGINTHEGRASS has had his rating raised from 104 to 108 after capturing the Listed Memorial Mile over 1600m on the Fairview grass track on Friday.  The Handicappers were of the opinion that 4th placed MARMARA SEA made for the best line horse here, leaving him unchanged on a rating of 106.

There were also ratings increases for 3rd placed MY BESTIE, who goes up from 100 to 104, for 5th finisher YOU KNOW WHO, who is up from 92 to 97 (in effect receiving half of the achieved adjustment, having actually run to a mark of 102 – which the Handicappers opted not to take literally) and for 6th placed PEACE IN OUR WORLD, who is up from 90 to 97.  PEACE IN OUR WORLD carried 1 kg more than stable companion YOU KNOW WHO, so in rating the pair this way they would meet on the correct weight terms in a handicap race.

Two horses were given a rating’s drop.  STONE COLD is down from 95 to 92, while CHRISTOPHER ROBIN was dropped from 111 to 106 (having in fact already been dropped to 110 after the publication of weights for this event).

  • Listed Off To Stud Stakes brought to you by RH Construction & Concrete Floors

HUMDINGER has had her rating upped from 90 to 95 after she won the Listed Off To Stud Stakes for fillies and mares brought to you by RH Construction & Concrete Floors over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday 7 August.  Here it was 4th placed TIME TO ROLL who was considered to make for the most suitable line horse, leaving her unchanged on a rating of 92.

The specific conditions of this race do not allow for an increase in the rating of any horse aside from the winner.   Accordingly, 2nd placed VICTORIA PAIGE and 3rd finisher MACARA remain unchanged on ratings of 83 and 88, respectively, despite actually running to marks of 89 and 92, respectively.

No fewer than five horses were given a rating’s drop.  MOUNT LAUREL is down slightly from 108 to 107, KEEP ON DANCING was trimmed from 94 to 93, MAGICAL FLIGHT is down from 88 to 86, FREESTATE STAR drops to 88 from 91, and lastly AQUAE SULIS drops from 87 to 86.
