Saturday’s impressive Gr2 Tibouchina Stakes winner  and reigning SA Horse Of The Year Oh Susanna’s Exceed And Excel half-brother Signore Fox registered his first stakes win on the same day.

Drakenstein Stud are the breeders of Signore Fox, the Coolmore Australia-sold son of the Darley sire, who won the Listed Daybreak Lover Plate over 1200m at Eagle Farm Racecourse.

Out of the Gr2-winning mare Sharp Susan, Signore Fox had won four races prior to his latest victory.

He is Exceed And Excel’s 159th Stakes winner.

Breeding and Racing reports that Drakenstein Stud’s policy, in most cases, is to sell their colts and retain their fillies, hence Oh Susanna, who was foaled in Australia, was exported to South Africa and under the care of Snaith Racing has recorded four Gr1 victories from 14 starts – highlighted by becoming the first 3yo filly in 100 years to win the Sun Met.

Sharp Susan’s final Australian born foal, a 2yo filly by Fastnet Rock named Fast Susan, was injured as a weanling and although she will never make it to the track, is likely to stay in Australia and join Drakenstein Stud’s other mare, the Argentinian Gr1 winner Greta G (Exchange Rate) at Coolmore Stud.

After foaling Fast Susan, Sharp Susan was exported to Ireland where she has a Galileo yearling filly and foaled a Frankel colt this season, both extremely valuable commodities.
