Stipes Raise On-Course TV Issues Again

Race policing prejudiced

Technical issues with the Kenilworth on-course feed to the Stipes boardroom was raised in last Tuesday’s Stipes report from the Cape venue.

The NHA reported various ‘freezes’ and footage breakdowns to Kenilworth Racing after most of the races at Tuesday’s racemeeting were impacted upon.

At Saturday’s racemeeting, which interestingly had features of cameras under the rails and microphones picking up the sounds of the hoofbeats and whips cracking, it was reported that during the running of the seventh race – the World Sports Betting Gr3 Pocket Power Stakes – the live feed to the Boardroom froze continually, making it impossible for the Stipes to view the live footage or accurately assess the replay. This was again reported to Kenilworth Racing.

As raised by various callers to our offices, this technical issue potentially undermines the policing of the racing.

After Tuesday’s issues, we raised the matter with 4Racing who said:

There were no camera or picture freezes on the Racing 240 broadcast from the venue, which ran seamlessly on air.

The issue experienced, as raised in the stipes report, was the picture from the outside broadcast van to the stipes boardroom.

We suspect it was caused by an aged fibre network issue on course.  We still be sending a team to inspect the network cable and if need be will replace the network cable to address this issue going forward.
