Dan The Lad – If All Else Fails

A bit of value as the shadows lengthen

The Grade 1 WSB Gauteng Summer Cup has finally arrived.

There are five other feature races to look forward to which include the Gr2 WSB Dingaans, Gr2 WSB Ipi Tombe Challenge, Gr3 WSB Magnolia Handicap, Gr3 New Turf Carriers Merchants and the Listed WSB Racing Association Handicap.

The first race is off at 12h05 while the lucky last is scheduled for 17h25.

If the R20 million Pick 6 doesn’t pan out as expected, Jimmy The Rich writes that Dan The Lad in Race 10 is currently trading at 25/2 with Hollywoodbets and could provide a get-out ticket.

He should have finished much closer last time as he was baulked for a run at the 150m mark. He has won twice and finished second once from eight starts over this course and distance.

The 7yo gelding drops back to Handicap company this afternoon and with a bit of luck in running, he can get back to winning ways.

The Paul Matchett stable is in fine form which is a big plus.

Diego De Gouveia is not riding as he is medically indisposed.

The false rail is at zero on the back straight to 5m on the bend, with a 5m spur at the 700m mark.

  • The Bipot starts in the second at 12h40
  • The Place Accumulator starts in the third at 13h15
  • The Pick 6 starts in the fourth at 13h50
  • Jackpot 1 starts in the fifth race at 14h25
  • Jackpot 2 starts in the seventh race at 15h35
