Inquiry – Work Rider Sean Paterson

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held on 3 November 2010, Work Rider Sean Paterson was charged with a contravention of Rule 77.1 read with Rule 77.2.10 in that a urine specimen taken from him at the Turffontein Racecourse on 11 September 2010 disclosed upon analysis the presence of Furosemide which is a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules of the National Horseracing Authority.

Mr Paterson pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board imposed a suspension from riding in Work Riders races for a period of six weeks, of which three weeks are wholly suspended for a period of one year on condition that Mr Paterson is not found guilty of a contravention of these Rules during that period.

Jockey Paterson has the right of appeal.

Jockey Gavin Lerena Suspended

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that Jockey Gavin Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of FLIRTATION, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners at approximately the 1600m mark of Race 7 at the Turffontein Racecourse on 30 October 2010.

Mr Lerena signed an Admission of Guilt and he has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 7 November to 15 November 2010, both days inclusive, but excluding 12 November and 14 November 2010.

Inquiry – Trainer Louis Goosen

At an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on 9 November 2010, Trainer Louis Goosen appeared before a National Horseracing Authority Inquiry Board, chaired by Advocate Guy Hoffman SC. The mandate of the Inquiry Board was to ascertain whether a SMS which Mr Goosen had disseminated on the evening of 17 September 2010, had the effect of bringing into disrepute the good name of the NHA.

After conducting the Inquiry, the Board found that although the contents of the SMS did indeed contravene the provisions of Rule 72.1.26, that no further action should be taken inter alia because Mr Goosen had sent out a further SMS on the morning of 18 September 2010, correcting the negative impression created by the first SMS.

Jockey Jonathan Soll Suspended

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that Apprentice Jockey Jonathan Soll was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of AUDIT REPORT, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners on his inside when he shifted in at approximately the 200m mark of Race 3 at the Fairview Racecourse on 5 November 2010.

Mr Soll signed an Admission of Guilt and he has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of two weeks from 13 November to 26 November 2010, both days inclusive.

Jockey Shannon Devoy Suspended

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that Jockey Shannon Devoy was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of TRAVELLER’S TALE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to WHINK when he shifted in at approximately the 300m mark of Race 3 at the Fairview Racecourse on 5 November 2010.

Mr Devoy signed an Admission of Guilt and he has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 16 November to 22 November 2010, both days inclusive.

Apprentice Jockey Miss Justine King Suspended

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that Apprentice Jockey Miss Justine King was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of CANNONBALL, she failed to ensure that she did not cause interference to LT SAMSON when she shifted in at approximately the 1000m mark of Race 6 at the Fairview Racecourse on 5 November 2010.

Miss King signed an Admission of Guilt and she has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 16 November to 22 November 2010, both days inclusive.

Inquiry – Jockey Andrew Fortune

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry which commenced on 27 October 2010 and was concluded on 10 November 2010, Jockey Andrew Fortune was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3, in that whilst riding NOBLEWOOD, he failed to ride this horse out to the end of the race when still competing for 2nd place and stopped riding with two strides to go, in Race 6 on 6 October 2010, at Durbanville Racecourse.

Mr A Fortune pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board found Mr Fortune guilty and imposed a fine of R20 000.00.

Mr Fortune has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.

Inquiry –  Jockey S R Khathi

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held on 11 November 2010, Jockey S R Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 77.1 read with Rule 77.2.10 in that a urine specimen taken from him at the Arlington Racecourse on 13 September 2010 disclosed upon analysis the presence of Furosemide which is a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules of the National Horseracing Authority.

Mr Khathi pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board imposed a suspension from riding in races for a period of one month, of which two weeks are wholly suspended for a period of one year on condition that Mr Khathi is not found guilty of a contravention of these Rules during that period.

Mr Khathi has the right of appeal.

Jockey William Buick (UK) Suspended

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that Jockey William Buick was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of CASK, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners on his outside when he shifted out sharply in the closing stages in Race 8 at the Kenilworth Racecourse on 14 November 2010.

Mr Buick signed an Admission of Guilt and he has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week.    In terms of the International Agreement on Racing and Breeding, we have requested the British Horseracing Authority to reciprocate this penalty and as a result, Mr Buick is suspended from riding for the same time period in the United Kingdom.

His suspension in respect of this suspension will run from 20 November to 26 November 2010, both days inclusive.

Jockey Kevin Shea Suspended

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that Jockey Kevin Shea was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of SOUTH RANGER (ARG), he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners between the 1000 and 300 metre marks in Race 9 at the Clairwood Racecourse on 20 October 2010.

Mr Shea signed an Admission of Guilt and he has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of ten days from 22 November to 1 December 2010, both days inclusive but excluding 27 November and including 3 December 2010.

Jockey Sandile Khathi Suspended

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that Jockey Sandile Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of FIFTY SCENT, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to VIEWOFTHEPARK when he shifted in at about the 300 metre mark in Race 2 at the Fairview Racecourse on 12 November 2010.

Mr Khathi signed an Admission of Guilt and he has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 16 November to 22 November 2010, both days inclusive.
