Manners Maketh The Man – Fairview Today

First due off @ 12h20

An eight-race programme has been carded on the Fairview polytrack this afternoon with the first due off at 12h20.

Prior to the Fairview racemeeting on Friday, jockeys were addressed by the Racing Control Executive, the Chief Stipendiary Steward, and the Investigating Officer.

Their attention was drawn to Boardroom etiquette, conduct in the weighing room and surrounds and the need for cordial and mutual respect between Riders and Officials.

Rules pertaining to Jockey quarters and the use of cellular telephones or any other devices for communication purposes were highlighted, as well as the recent Rule amendments, which came into effect in the new racing season.

The Riders were reminded that their safety is paramount, as well as that of horse welfare and the integrity of racing.

Sporting Post-sponsored Jockey Luyolo Mxothwa is medically indisposed and will not be riding at the meeting.

A reminder that selections for the free-to-play Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge must be in at least 5 minutes before the first is off.

Alan Greeff sends out Walt Whitman in Race 5 – Richard Fourie retains the ride (Pic – Pauline Herman)

Walt Whitman from the Alan Greeff stable takes his place in Race 5 and he is the possible Pick 6 banker.

He was an impressive winner of his last start over 2200m on this course. He was slow into stride but ran on well and won easier than the official margin suggests.

The son of Canford Cliffs should have no issues with the drop to 2000m.

He is a horse with ability and under jockey Richard Fourie, he should follow up with another victory.

Trainer Zietsman Oosthuizen sends out Kabon Kapi in the lucky last as she may be the horse to close off the meeting. Her last three starts have been decent.

She raced from a handy position over 1400m last time before lacking extra late. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since.

She finished third in her only attempt over this course and distance. Apprentice Donald Geerthsen takes the 1.5kgs off her back which will assist her cause.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
