Highlands enjoyed a champagne start to their Cape Winter Series sponsorship in 2017 when African Night Sky became the first horse since the mighty Pocket Power to win the Cape Triple Crown, are once again the big brand name behind the series this year
With the 2017 Cape Winter Derby being run this weekend and African Night Sky looking our best chance yet of seeing a successor to Pocket Power, we went in search of the origins of the Cape Winter Series
Western Cape racing has received a boost with the news that leading breeders Highlands, part of Ridgemont, will sponsor the prestigious Cape Winter Series
We have had a minor taste of things to come with wet and grey days in Cape Town this week, but there is some excellent heartwarming racing in the Cape in the months ahead, with the 2013 Winter Series offering prize money of R1 350 000 for the 3yo’s.
It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
