Oaks-placed stakes winning Jet Master mare White Mischief, in foal to Var, topped the Milkwood dispersal sale last week. Summerhill’s Mick Goss had to bid R440.000 to secure the 4yo mare, who is in foal for the first time.
Second top price was R330.000, bid by Gillian Thomson for another young mare carrying for the first time, the twice raced Laurel Tree. This daughter of Fort Wood is full sister to two stakes horses and to the dam of SA Derby winner Bouquet Garni, and hails from the famous Natalma female line. The union with covering sire Ideal World was described in the 2011 Sirebook as ‘a firework mating’.
In all, fifteen mares broke the R100k barrier.
Highest priced weanling was a Silvano colt out of Gr2 placed stakes winner Blushing Fairy. The youngster is full brother to two multiple winners, including stakes placed Fairy Gold. Adam Kethro outbid the opposition at R270.000.
Second highest price was R240.000 for a Captain Al colt out of stakes placed Burmese, who is a granddaughter of Let Kiss. Yvette Bremner signed the sale-slip.
