The Port Elizabeth trainer Mitch Wiese is not one to shy away from a challenge. It is no easy task for a trainer from the Eastern Cape to tackle the country’s best in the Western Cape’s Summer Season in Cape Town. Next week Wiese will leave PE with nine of his horses to do exactly that.
He knows it is a tough task but did the same thing with success two years ago.
‘Lizard’s Desire and Favourite Island were some of my raiders then,” Wiese said.
“If you don’t take the best on you won’t know how good your horses are . One must go and try.”
The horses that he will take to Cape Town are Edukat, Sculptor, Importasimo, American Man, Roused, Leading Guest, Tree Flag, Wake Me Shake Me and Bhusende.
“With American Man I’m looking at the Queens Plate. He will have a prep run for that,” Wiese added.
Wiese also wants to nominate Bhusende for the Queens Plate, but his merit rating might be to low at this stage. He expects good performances from Edukat and Sculptor in Cape Town. “Sculptor should run well in the sprints.”
Edukat is a five year old mare that has been nominated for the Spectre Stakes, a grade 2 race at Kenilworth on 2 January.
Durban-based jockey Derryl Daniels will do duty for the Wiese stable in Cape Town.
Wiese has saddled 19 winners this season, a good follow-up on last season’s tally of 36.
