Equus Outstanding Breeders of last season, Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein celebrated a Kenilworth Saturday feature double as the Legislate gelding Hoedspruit followed up on Marina’s good win a half hour earlier, sweeping through late to win the R125 000 World Sports Betting Gr3 Legal Eagle Stakes.
The second leg of the 2021 WSB Cape Winter Series looked to be at the mercy of the Snaith’s progressive looking first leg winner Warrior, who started in the red.

But after the gallant Crimson King (10-1) had made most of the running and appeared to be staying on powerfully, it was Snaith’s second stringer and Cape Derby fourth-placer Hoedspruit (5-1), who showed his appreciation for the extra.
Coming from some way off, he stormed down the middle under Louis Mxothwa to beat Glen Kotzen’s Crimson King going away by 0,40 lengths in a time of 116,36 secs.
The Snaiths also banked third cheque courtesy of Somerset Maugham (12-1), who shaded the flying So Flawless (25-1).
The favourite Warrior never really looked like earning and was beaten just over two lengths.
Firealley, who had almost gotten Warrior’s measure over the mile in the opening leg of the series, was beaten over 18 lengths.
A feature success for owner Suzette Viljoen, Hoedspruit is another first-crop maiden graded stakes winner for the Cheveley Stud bred and based 2014 SA Horse Of The Year Legislate (Dynasty).
He is out of the Trippi mare Londolozi and was a R280 000 purchase from the 2019 BSA Cape Yearling Sale.
A winner of 3 races with 4 places from 10 starts, Hoedspruit has earned R185 850 in stakes.
The R125 000 WSB Gr3 Pocket Power Stakes rounds off the WSB Cape Winter Series and is run over 2400m on Saturday 26 June.
