David & Perdrau Part Company

Some nasty comments on social media

Jockey Derreck David has landed a one-week suspension in Mauritius and has decided to use the time, plus a extra few weeks, to overcome an injury.

As a result, the South African has split with trainer Alain Perdrau. David posted on his Facebook page that he had injured his back and needs to take a few weeks rest.

“So the Alain Perdrau stable and I have decided to bring to an end our association.

“I just would like to thank all the members and staff of the Alain Perdrau stable for everything and I hope that they have all the success for the rest of the season,” wrote David.

However, he received some vicious comments in reaction to his post. While the majority of the 208 responses were positive, a few were less than complimentary.

“You’re not (Robbie) Fradd. You need to learn more. Jockey like u dont nid (sic) to ride here,” was one of the replies.

The writer could do with a few spelling lessons, but David said in an earlier post that he was finding it hard to deal with much of the unwarranted criticism.

“Some of these people send me messages every Saturday asking me ‘DD what can we bet today or DD what’s your best’, then I see comments from these same people saying ‘go home DD’.

“I will challenge anyone on my Facebook or in the racing world to come and show me where and what was a bad ride or where was I a cheater!”

Most unkind remarks are from people talking from their pockets, and the best response is as David put it at the end of his post: “Will be back fitter and stronger.”
