First Met Supplementary Entries Close Today

Rainbow Bridge stays at top of boards

The first supplementary entries for the R5 million Gr1 Sun Met to be run at Kenilworth on 26 January 2019 close today at 11h00.

The Kenilworth flagship event, now run at weight-for-age and won for the first time in over 100 years by  a 3yo filly in 2018, attracted 29 entries at first stage on 29 November.

After Saturday’s sensational Green Point Stakes, there was a slight firming in the Hollywood ante-post market of the top four finishers, with the rest drifting accordingly.

After his scintillating effort off a dawdling pace and having fought his rider, Rainbow Bridge is still at the top of the boards.

While there is a bonus of R1 million on offer for any horse that can achieve the Summer Cup-Sun Met double, trainer Sean Tarry has indicated that Tilbury Fort, who won Joburg’s big race on 1 December, will not be taking his place on the final Saturday in January.

Final Supplementary Entries close at 11h00 on Monday 7 January 2019

Final Declarations are due by 11h00 on Monday 14 January 2019, on which day the final field is announced.

The Barrier Draws will be drawn at an event on Wednesday 16 January 2019.

The traditional Met public gallops have been abandoned.

Under the 2019 Met fashion theme, African Luxury: Precious Metals, the big day combines high-end fashion with world-class entertainment – both on and off the race track.
