Zechner And David Carry SA Flag

2019 Mauritius Season opens tomorrow

South African Jockey Karl Zechner has joined the C Daby stables for the 2019 racing season and will thus commence his first season in Mauritius.

Karl Zechner – new opportunity

The contract was negotiated by Jay Mahibir who informs the Sporting Post that due to delays in residence permits Karl, accompanied by his wife and child, only arrived in Mauritius this week.

A former SA Triple Crown winner, the 32 year old Zimbabwe born and bred Zechner has been freelancing with some success here in recent times and joins another SA trained rider in Derreck David.

Unlike Zechner, who will be learning the ropes, David became one of only 14 jockeys to be inducted to the Mauritius Hall Of Fame in 2015. He has enjoyed plenty of success here.

The first meeting of the new season is on Saturday 23 March.

Zechner has his first ride in the second race on Seven Wood.
