Nine Races At Vaal Today

First off at 12h15

A Mike de Kock Australian-bred son of Snitzel makes a low-profile debut on the nine-race programme at the Vaal today.

The Shadwell-owned colt Alameery has his first run in the ninth race,a 1000m maiden plate.

Purchased from the draft of Mike and Kate Fleming’s Bhima Thoroughbreds at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for A$480,000, the colt (pictured above) is out of the High Yield mare Judged, a three time Gr3 winner of six races from 1200m to 1600m.

Alameery is a three-quarter-brother to the Gr3 placed Judicial Rock (Fastnet Rock), who is in foal to Newgate Farm’s dual Gr1-winning son of Snitzel, Russian Revolution.

Snitzel progeny have done well from limited chances here – with his nine winners from eleven runners including new Ascot stallion and Gr1 SA Derby winner Heavenly Blue, the juvenile Listed winner Traces, the stakes-placed Unannounced and multiple winners Marion Belle, Deerupt and Preoccupation.

Mathew de Kock said that Alameery was a temperamental sort, who had shown some inconsistent work. “We are starting him over 1000m to learn more about him. On the best he has shown us, he would have a chance. But he is temperamental.”

With Diego De Gouveia having been stood down, no jockey has yet been declared for Alameery.

Today’s Vaal meeting commences at 12h15 and the Bipot goes off in the second at 12h50.

The false rail is set at zero on the back straight and bend, becoming 2.5m at the 1000m with a 2.5m spur at the 600m mark. False rails will be 7m in from the 1600m outside rails to the pull up area.
