Cape Yearling Sale - the value platform!

The power-packed Pathfork gelding Mr Flood has deservedly earned himself poster boy status for Bloodstock South Africa’s 2020 Cape Yearling Sale.

A R50 000 graduate of this true value-for-money regional sale, the Lucky Houdalakis-trained speedster took his earnings to over the half million mark at Turffontein a fortnight ago – winning the Gr3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap to make it five on the trot, and six wins from just eight starts.

Everybody will be looking for the new generation Mr Flood amongst the diverse 170 lots catalogued for the 2020 renewal of this power platform of winners, which will be held at the Mistico Equestrian Centre near Paarl on Friday 28 February.

And the Houdalakis flagbearer is clearly no one-hit wonder. History shows that this sale has consistently produced high-class graded stakes winners, including the likes of Doosra, Elusive Heart, Final Judgement, Hack Green, Princess Peach, and Drakenstein Stud’s exciting young stallion Gold Standard.

Glen Kotzen’s recent winner Coral Bay, a winner of both the Kenilworth Fillies Nursery and Irridescence Stakes at two, was a R60 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Yearling Sale.

Among the successful and promising stallions represented are Captain Of All, Count Dubois, Duke Of Marmalade, Elusive Fort, Flower Alley, Gimmethegreenlight, Global View, Ideal World, Judpot, Pathfork Pomodoro, Querari, Twice Over, Var, Vercingetorix, Visionaire and What A Winter – to name but a few.

Stallions with first local yearlings on the sale include Admiral Kitten, Quasillo, Rafeef, Red Ray, and William Longsword.

Added to the incentive is the exciting prospect of finding a potential winner of the inaugural Cape Yearling Sale Cup, to be run on the prestigious Cape Derby Day in February 2021.

The additional attraction of this linked sales race for a minimum stake of R550 000 on the prestigious high-profile Cape Derby day in 2021 now raises the game for buyers. And the timing of the contest on a major Gr1 raceday in the height of the Cape Summer Of Champions provides the cherry on the top for those that love the true thrills and enjoyment offered by this wonderful game.

Graduates of the Cape Yearling Sale will also be in line to earn the R60 000 bonus payable by BSA to maiden winners of Maiden Juvenile and Juvenile Plate races in South Africa.

So, there is plenty to play for!

We have done some of the hard work – read on and now it’s up to you and Lady Luck.
