Turffontein – Minute Of Silence Called For

The Bipot starts in the first at 12h25

Racing is at Turffontein for an eight-race programme on the Inside course today.

On the suggestion of readers, the Sporting Post has called for a minute of silence today at the Heritage Day racemeeting at Turffontein and on the Tellytrack airwaves, as a  mark of respect and to register a peaceful protest against the tragic events of Thursday 17 September at Fairview.

An email was sent on Wednesday to senior management of Phumelela and the Racing Association with the suggestion.

There has been no acknowledgement.

On to the racing and today’s meeting looks to be competitive.

The first race is off at 12h25 and the lucky last is off at 16h30.

Jimmy The Rich writes that Qunetra from the Roy Magner yard looks to be the best bet on today’s card. His last three starts since the 19-week break over this distance have been good.

He challenged strongly all the way to the line last time, but found one too good in the form of Full Velocity. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked.

The son of Querari gets the services of Gavin Lerena for the first time and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

There is money around for Sumida who is an unraced daughter of Var from the Paul Peter stable. She needs to be respected.

Palace Assembly from the Mike/Adam Azzie should close off the meeting. He took on stronger company in his last start and was far from disgraced.

The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He has finished second twice from three starts on this course.

From his good draw of three, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
