Dean Kannemeyer saddled Dynasty (2003) and the ill-fated Rabiya (2005) to win the Gr1 Daily News 2000, and will saddle the recent impressive Gr3 Byerley Turk winner Waterberry Lane in Saturday’s R1 million renewal at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Kannemeyer’s son of Soft Falling Rain is the third highest runner on 115 in a nine horse field, headed by Justin Snaith’s Cape Derby winner Pomp And Power (118) and Joey Soma’s SA Classic hero, Red Saxon (118).

Talking to the Sporting Post on Monday, Kannemeyer said that he had put a line through his charge’s WSB Guineas run last time.
“It was a slow-run race and Waterberry Lane was overracing. He finished on the fringes of the placed horses and 2,30 lengths off Zapatillas. It didn’t teach us much so we will hopefully get a better pace on Saturday and we will see how he handles it. I need him to show us he goes the trip and stamp his Hollywoodbets Durban July entry with a decent effort,” he added.
Mike de Kock saddles the SA Classic runner-up Safe Passage (117), who will be ridden by a new pilot in Muzi Yeni, and the SA Derby winner Aragosta (109), who comes off a short break.
