Lyle To Return To Hong Kong

Has picked up momentum after injury

Multiple SA Champion Lyle Hewitson has told the Sporting Post that he will definitely be returning to Hong Kong for the 2022/23 season to take up a full season Club Jockey’s licence which was granted on Friday.

After a shocking accident in December 2021, Lyle was one of a quartet of jockeys that came down, when his mount Amazing Star was involved in an horrific fall just before the field entered the home straight in the HK$24 million Gr1 Longines Hong Kong Sprint.

He suffered a fractured pelvis and only returned to race riding in mid-January this year.

Lyle is currently in his second Hong Kong stint and has grown in confidence and shown a terrific fighting spirit, with 20 winners on the board.

The Licensing Committee resolved to grant, subject to an undertaking to arrive in Hong Kong and complete quarantine by no later than 7 clear days before the first scheduled race meeting, a full-season Club Jockey’s licence to all of the following jockeys for the 2022/2023 racing season:-

  • Alexis Badel
  • Harry Bentley
  • Vagner Borges
  • Luke Currie
  • Luke Ferraris
  • Antoine Hamelin
  • Lyle Hewitson
  • Ruan Maia
  • Joao Moreira
  • Zac Purton
  • Karis Teetan

They also granted a Freelance Jockey’s licence for the 2022/2023 racing season to each of the following jockeys:-

  • Matthew CHADWICK
  • Alfred CHAN Ka Hei
  • Jerry CHAU Chun Lok
  • Vincent HO Chak Yiu
  • Alex LAI Hoi Wing
  • Derek LEUNG Ka Chun
  • Dylan MO Hin Tung
  • Matthew POON Ming Fai
  • Jack WONG Ho Nam
  • Victor WONG Chun
  • Keith YEUNG Ming Lun

The Committee granted a Trainer’s licence for the 2022/2023 racing season to each of the following trainers, subject to a satisfactory medical examination being undertaken and the signing of an agreement with the Club:-

  • Michael C W Chang
  • Francis K W Lui
  • Me Y S Tsui
  • Caspar Fownes
  • Manfred K L Man
  • Douglas Whyte
  • Richard Gibson
  • Anthony Millard
  • Dennis C H Yip
  • David Hall
  • Danny C S Shum

  • David Hayes
  • John Size
  • Benno T P Yung
  • Peter L Ho
  • Chris W Y So
  • Frankie F C Lor
  • Jimmy K H Ting

Tony Cruz and Jamie Richards were previously granted a Trainer’s licence for the 2022/2023 racing season on 17 December 2021.

The Committee also resolved to grant Pierre Ng Pang Chi a Trainer’s licence for the 2022/2023 racing season, subject to the usual formalities, to fill an existing vacancy. This will be effective on 17 July 2022 in order for him to become eligible to receive horses into his stable when end-of-season transfers occur.
