The most successful Inglis Breeding Stock Sales Series in history concluded with a strong renewal of the Great Southern Weanling Sale at Oaklands on Friday.

In what has been a stellar month of broodmare and foal sales at both Riverside and Oaklands:
*The Inglis Weanling Sales Series (Australian Weanling Sale and Great Southern Weanling Sale) grossed a record A$29,333,150, ensuring its place as the market-leading weanling sales series in Australia for a fourth consecutive year
*The combined gross of the Inglis Breeding Stock Sales Series – Australian Weanling Sale, Chairman’s Sale, Australian Broodmare Sale and Great Southern Weanling Sale – currently sits at a record A$87,421,510, smashing the previous record of A$78,094,523 set in 2023
*Today’s Great Southern Weanling Sale ended with a gross of A$10,024,000 and clearance rate of 79%, with 27 foals realising A$100,000 or more, taking the total of six-figure weanlings for the Inglis series to 80
Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch described the past month as “incredible”.
“There have been no shortage of unbelievable moments over the past four or five weeks, from the spectacular Chairman’s Sale to the unbelievably robust weanling sales in both Sydney and Melbourne and to see the numbers at the end of the day is hugely satisfying,’’ Hutch said.
“This set of breeding stock sales is something that as a team, we have worked incredibly hard on for the past number of years to ensure they all saw the growth we knew they warranted and the results speak for themselves, I mean to now have the Inglis Weanling Sales Series as comfortably the biggest and best in Australia and to have made a significant impression on the broodmare market, it’s fantastic.
“To sell nearly A$30m worth of weanlings between the Australian Weanling Sale and Great Southern Weanling Sale is massive – that’s some 60% more than the Magic Millions, for context, so it’s certainly a case of reward for effort.
“We are very grateful to breeders and vendors for their support of our sales. We are hugely motivated to deliver the best results we can for as many people as we can, so it’s pleasing to have reached this stage of the sales season and achieved the results that we have.”
Friday’s Great Southern Weanling Sale top lot was an Ole Kirk x Rainy Daze filly from Lemrac Lodge, which sold to Wilrace for A$475,000.
Lemrac Lodge purchased Rainy Daze in foal to Ole Kirk for just A$12,000 in last year’s Inglis Digital April (Late) Online Sale, making today’s result even more extraordinary.
“We have to thank [Inglis Bloodstock Consultant] Will Stott, it’s unbelievable, he found the mare for me on Inglis Digital and said she’s a ‘must have’ so we grabbed her and she’s come home and look at us now!’’ Lemrac Lodge’s Megan Kirsopp-Cole said.
“Pinch me, I cannot believe it, I’m so grateful for this moment. We all know how hard it is to get and we did it. The little farm did it. You made a dream come true, we haven’t stopped crying.
“I still can’t actually believe it. I dared to dream, secretly I was hoping for over A$300,000 but I’m blown away now, just blown away.’’
Dave Morrissey of Cannon Hayes Stud, who acted on behalf of Wilrace added: “We put a budget on her, that budget blew out, I only got one bid and thank god it was the winning bid.
“We bought her for some really good clients. I loved her yesterday when I saw her, she vetted clean, I came back today to look at her again and liked her more.
“There was very little not to like about her, she was a great physical, great hip, great walker, it’s a good family so we’re very happy to get her.’’
Friday’s second-top lot was a Wootton Bassett x Jadeerah filly of Rosemont, which sold to Peter Morgan and Gall Bloodstock for A$350,000.
Rosemont’s Ryan McEvoy described the result as “wonderful’’.
“She was a gorgeous filly, when we filmed her pre-sale she just moved so well and she did that all week,’’ McEvoy said.
“We’re thrilled, Peter Morgan is a good friend and good client and Ray Gall, of I Am Invincible fame, I wish them the very best.
“She’ll go back to Yarraman where a lot of Ray’s horses are and they’ll make a call from there. Whatever way they choose to go with her, I think she’ll deliver in spades for them.’’
