Drakenstein Stud maintained their top local and international form when their What A Winter home-bred Distant Winter won first time out in the USA on Thursday.

Now in the care of Graham Motion, Distant Winter returned to action in the Cayton Park silks after a 16 month break to score a smart win under Jorge Ruiz in a 1 mile 70 yds Allowance contest at Delaware Park.

A Gr1 placed winner of the 2023 Gr3 Winter Nursery, Distant Winner is now a three-time winner.

The daughter of Equus Champion What A Winter (Western Winter) is out of the twice-winning Trippi mare, Fromafar.

Distant Winter campaigned in South Africa in the care of Milnerton-based Candice Bass-Robinson.
