Top Families In Mauritzfontein’s Draft

Mauritzfontein, one the top thoroughbred nurseries in South Africa whose numerous high-class graduates include recently retired Horse Of The Year Summer Pudding, have an excellent draft this week at the August Two Year Old Sale.

Among the proven and promising sires represented in this powerful consignment are Ideal World, Master Of My Fate, Rafeef, Soft Falling Rain, The United States and What A Winter.

Lot 84- Mrs Browning (Rafeef x Miss Galidora(IRE))

Computaform Sprint winner Rafeef, South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2020-2021, has five yearlings on offer.

They include Mrs Browning (Lot 84), a filly whose dam is a half-sister to French classic winner and successful sire Clodovil, Ipso Facto (Lot 250), a half-sister to Woolavington Handicap winner Benjan, and Lord Brooktree (Lot 253). The latter is a colt whose dam is a winning half-sister to the globetrotting stakes winner Mr Brock as well as to the dam of Gr3 Caradoc Gold Cup hero African Adventure.

Master Of My Fate, whose progeny include the Gr1 winners Sentbydestiny, Tempting Fate and Zarina as well as the aforementioned African Adventure, has two lots in this draft.

Colour Me Quick (Lot 192) is a filly out of a three time winning daughter of outstanding broodmare sire Dixieland Band, while Logan Lake (Lot 294) is a colt from the immediate family of legendary stallion Danehill.

Maggie Smith (Lot 291) is a What A Winter filly out of a three time winning daughter of New Approach, while Raining Rubies (Lot 144) is a Soft Falling Rain half-sister to three winners headed by Gr3 Gold Bowl victor Imperial Ruby.

Promising young sire The United States has four juveniles in Mauritzfontein’s draft including Elsas Palace (Lot 111), a half-sister to four winners including the very game Colorado Springs, and Tyrconnell (Lot 276). The latter, a colt from the same female line as The United States, is a half-brother to none other than former Grand Heritage winner Riverstown.

Mauritzfontein’s highly successful resident sire Ideal World has six lots on offer. His juveniles on sale are headed by Matopo Hill (Lot 104), a three-parts sister to Ideal World’s G3 winning daughter Mount Laurel, Temperate Zone (Lot 195), a full-brother to G3 Track And Ball Oaks heroine Zante, and Sugarberry (Lot 216). The latter, a filly whose dam is a winning daughter of Silvano, hails from the same family as such G1 winners as Dracula, Festal, and Wandjina.
