Reigning champion jockey of Mauritius, Cedric Segeon, has fallen foul of the authorities in the very first meeting of the new season.
Segeon was suspended for 6 weeks and fined Rs 150,000 (about ZAR 50 000) for his ride on Triad Of Fortune in the eighth race on Saturday.
He has appealed against the sentence.
Segeon was found guilty under Rule Of Racing 160A(a) : ‘‘When riding in a race, a jockey shall take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that, throughout the race, his horse is given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible place in the field.’’
