Fallon Junior’s Gr1 Milestone

Europe's premier sprint is a nice way to start!

Cieren Fallon, son of Kieren Fallon, won the Gr1 July Cup, Europe’s premier sprint, on Oxted (Mayson-Charlotte Rosina, by Choisir) on Saturday.

Racingpost.com reported that Fallon Junior’s first Gr1 win ironically came in one of the few Gr1’s Fallon Senior couldn’t win, and the race is the first Gr1 for trainer Roger Teal too.

Father and son

“I always remember what Dad has said in the back of my mind,” said Fallon.

“He told me to keep it simple, stay straight and make sure I had him well balanced going into the dip. He’s here somewhere but he’s hiding like he always does. We still live together so tonight will be interesting. I’ll definitely wind him up. He’s very proud and has helped me a lot this year and last year. He was going to move to America but stuck around to look after me. I can’t thank him enough.”

4YO gelding Oxted has won four of his nine starts.

Second in the July Cup was Sceptical (Exceed and Excel-Jealous Again, by Trippi) and third was Golden Horde (Lethal Force-Entreat, by Pivotal).
