Jocks In Saddle For Charity

Gates open at 11am - entrance is free - meet your heroes

Coastal JocksThe Coastal Jockeys Association charity raceday will take place at Durbanville on Saturday and features the popular Jockeys Chase run over 100m and sponsored by the South African Association of Professional Farriers.

Money will be raised for the Groom School Trust and the Western Cape Equine Trust and the response by the racing industry has already been magnificent.

Hot favourite for the jockeys chase is Aldo Domeyer, who has a turn of foot matched only by the legendary Tommy Hotspur.

All eight races on the Durbanville programme have already been sold off to sponsors.

The Groom School uplifts grooms through education and also aims to improve the standards of service they provide to the racing industry through such learning programs as stable management, horse care and riding.

The Western Cape Equine Trust was established as a non-profit organization to improve the well-being of horses that came into their care. Through the funding a Horse Care Unit was opened and in 2010 a project called REHORP was established, in which ex-racehorses are donated to the Trust’s care and, after being “let down” and schooled, they are re-homed to suitable caring owners.

Entertainment on course, other than eight horse races, will include a live band and a Rugby beer garden where the vital Wales vs Australia match can be watched live on multiple TV screens.

The public can also mingle and chat to the jockeys. The kiddies will be catered for and the entertainment provided will include a jumping castle.

Gates open at 11h00.
