The Maine Chance bred Silvano gelding, formerly in the care of Robbie Sage when named Vacquero, is likely to run in the HK$10 million Standard Chartered & Chater Cup on Sunday week at Sha Tin.
But it won’t be easy in the set weights affair. Chefano and his stablemates Helene Charisma and Savvy Nine are rated under 100 and take on some genuine class in the final leg of the Hong Kong Triple Crown.
Trainers John Moore and Tony Cruz have won the race the past seven years and as the only two trainers with entries for the 2020 renewal, their joint dominance will continue.
The race has been been labelled as an Exultant-benefit by local media, with last year’s winner one of three entries for trainer Tony Cruz.
In a racing territory where there is a dearth of staying talent, the situation could have been worse – in 2018 there were only five runners engaged.
