Jockey Anton Marcus could be out of the saddle for ten weeks following an injury to his thumb at Greyville on Sunday.
Marcus was riding the filly Admiral’s Eye for Charles Laird when she jumped a patch at the 1200m mark and faltered. Marcus did not perservere with his ride.
“I snapped the tendon in my thumb when the filly jumped a patch and I am due in theatre in an hour,” a disappointed Marcus told the Sporting Post at 09h30 on Monday morning.
Marcus said it was impossible to tell how long the recovery process would take and said that he believed eight to ten weeks to be the ‘worst case scenario’.
The injury is a massive blow to the multiple champion jockey, who is riding like a demon and currently leads the SA national jockey’s log.
We wish him a speedy recovery.
