Son of Gimmethegreenlight is too strong!

Varsfontein Stud’s champion resident sire Gimmethegreenlight’s fantastic season with his two-year-olds continued on Friday when Cape raider Port Louis won the R200 000 Listed Champion Juvenile Cup in a thrilling duel with Khaya’s Hope.

Runner up in the Gr3 World Sports Betting Langerman last time out, the Brett Crawford trained gelding showed plenty of heart under Louis Mxothwa.

Raced by Mr T Gujadhur, Port Louis fought out a thrilling duel with eventual runner up Khaya’s Hope before edging out his rival to win by a short head.

It was another four and three-quarter lengths back to third place finisher Forest Spy.

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Port Louis has now won twice from just six starts.

Out of the Qui Danzig mare Winning Eyes, Port Louis was a R260 000 buy from the 2021 Cape Yearling Sale.

He is the 44th stakes winner for Gimmethegreenlight, South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2020-2021.

Gimmethegreenlight has had a fine season with his two-year-olds this season including Gr3 Langerman winner Light Speed, Gr3 Cape Racing Cape Of Good Hope Nursery runner-up Wecangoallnight and the promising Countdown.

A son of outstanding sire More Than Ready, Gimmethegreenlight has 11 lots on offer at the upcoming August Two Year Old Sale.
