Birthday Visit. Jean Cruguet in SA this week

The world renowned American Triple Crown winning Jockey, Jean Cruguet will be visiting South Africa in the course of next week.

The Frenchman is one of three living Triple Crown winning Jockeys.

The Triple Crown (TC)  is the highest horse racing achievement  in American racing. The other two winning  riders are Ron Turcotte, who partnered Secretariat, and Steve Cauthen who rode Affirmed

The Triple Crown has not been won in over 30 years, making the three jockeys sought after celebrity athletes and legends in their own lifetimes.

Cruguet guided the magnificent Seattle Slew across the Belmont finish line in 1977 to win the American Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Horse Racing.

While here in SA, he  will be celebrating his 74th birthday.

He was last in SA for the Connoisseur International Races during the 1978-79 racing season, in which he won several races.

The sponsors of his birthday visit are GoldMark Farm (GMF)  of Ocala, Florida USA and GoldMark Media Ventures (GMMV), a division of GMF who is the process of filming a documentary entitled “Heart, Hope & Glory – A Two Minute Ride Into History…”.

This is a film tribute to these three amazing athletes.

A close friend of Jean Cruguet, Producer/Director and part time South African resident John Rousseau, will be capturing elements of his visit here and will be guiding him around the country for several meet and greet opportunities.

Jean will be visiting Kenilworth Race track this coming Wednesday and two days later will be conducting a short workshop at the SA Jockey Academy in Summerveld.

He will also be meeting with Mick Goss for a personal tour around Champion SA breeders, Summerhill Stud, next weekend.

We wish him an enjoyable stay!
