Karis Is Back!

Likely to be at Happy Valley on Wednesday 7 December

SA Jockey Academy graduate and now a well established personality in Hong Kong, Karis Teetan is set for a return to the saddle at Happy Valley on Wednesday after being sidelined since 18 September with a thyroid condition.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Chief Medical Officer granted the Mauritian Magician, a former SA Champion apprentice and Gr1 winning rider, the clearance after a frustrating time.

Teetan recently confirmed that doctors have not been able to pinpoint the cause of his overactive thyroid, which resulted in a high heart rate and muscle weakness.

They continued to treat him for autoimmune disorder Graves’ disease despite tests coming back negative, while doctors could not rule out Teetan’s issues being Covid-19 related after he became infected in the off-season.

“They don’t even know what I have, to be honest. The disease they were treating me for, all the tests came back negative,” he told the South China Morning Post recently.
