Welcome rain has fallen in Cape Town this week to accompany the start of the R1 million Highlands, part of Ridgemont, Cape Winter Series which gets under way at Kenilworth on Saturday.

The Mike Bass trained champion Pocket Power was the first horse to win the Cape Winter Series Triple Crown way back in 2006.
The now retired legend of the training ranks, Mike Bass saddled eight Winter Guineas winners in all.

In 2017, Justin Snaith pulled the ace out of the pack with the Dynasty gelding African Night Sky, who repeated the feat and went all the way from the mile opener to the stamina sapping 2400m final leg.
2017 was a watershed year for leading Cape breeders Highlands, Part of Ridgemont.

It was their opening year of sponsorship of the prestigious series and they also bred the winner!
The second leg is the R250 000 Gr3 Winter Classic run over 1800m on the Kenilworth Winter Course on Saturday 26 May.
The series reaches a climax with the running of the R250 000 Gr3 Winter Derby run over 2400m on the Kenilworth Winter Course on Saturday 30 June.
A bonus of R250 000 will be paid to owner/s of the horse that wins all three legs.
