The Lammerskraal Stud-bred Western Winter mare Blizzard Belle set up a new Fairview 1000m course record on Monday when beating her stablemates Copper Parade and Oriental Tiger to win the third race, a Pinnacle Stakes.

Blizzard Belle wins in KZN in the Lammerskraal silks
In a memorable race for the high-riding Yvette Bremner yard, Blizzard Belle was out like a flash of lightning under regular pilot S’manga Khumalo, to register her fourth win on the trot. She beat her Gr1 winning stablemate Copper Parade and the lightly raced 3yo, Oriental Tiger, who races out of the same yard.
A review of our records indicates that Blizzard Belle’s (admittedly wind assisted) time of 54,55 secs is the fastest ever run by a racehorse in South Africa over the turf 1000m in the modern era and breaks Mythical Flight’s time of 54,96 secs set at Turffontein on 5 May 2007 in the Gr1 Computaform Sprint.
Blizzard Belle is a daughter of Western Winter out of the smart Badger Land mare Bardot, who won 5 races for Geoff Woodruff from a mile to 2000m.
