National Horseracing Authority CEO Vee Moodley has confirmed that SAEHP’s temporary suspension of services will mean that from Tuesday, there will effectively be a lockdown on the movement of horses ‘until a solution is found’.

In a telephone conversation following the bombshell announcement by SAEHP on Monday morning, Moodley told the Sporting Post that the temporary suspension effectively means that the movement of horses into the AHS control zones, including from all stop-over quarantine stations, as well as between the Philippi training centre and Kenilworth racecourse, between the Milnerton training centre and Durbanville racecourse, as well as movement from satellite yards to racing in the control zones, was not permitted.
“I understand that there will need to be an approach to government. But it is known that the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development do not have the resources or manpower to deal with the logistics of the operation. So the industry needs to find a solution,” he said.
The Sporting Post has endeavoured to obtain a comment from the Thoroughbred Breeders Association, the Racing Association, as well as the racing operators, whose businesses now face more curved balls on an already sticky batting wicket.
