SA Champion to stud in Aus

Delago Deluxe to stand at Newhaven Park

Delago Deluxe

Delago Deluxe – undefeated Champion 2YO in South Africa

The Australian-bred South African sprinter Delago Deluxe (Encosta De Lago-Succeeding, by Flying Spur) will stand at NSW’s Newhaven Park in 2013.

In a deal brokered byMagic Millions CEO Vin Cox, Delago Deluxe (a $550,000 yearling consigned from Baramul Stud at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) will stand in partnership with Nordic Racing and Breeding (an Australian bloodstock company representing a consortium of thoroughbred participants comprising amongst others South Africa’s leading owner Markus Jooste) at a fee of $10,000.

On the track Delago Deluxe was crowned South Africa’s undefeated Champion 2YO in a season that included victory in the Gr1 Gold Medallion (1200m) at Scottsville. He returned at three to score a 1.25-lengths victory over his older rivals in the Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint (1200m) at the same track. Newhaven Park’s John Kelly enthused:

“It took something special to wake us from our sleep and get us back into the stallion game… Fast, good-looking, Gr1-winning colts is the recipe that works in Australia, both on the track and in the sales ring – this is also what has worked for Newhaven Park in the past with Champion stallions like Marauding and Zeditave.”
