Senor Santa Stakes – Melech Ran Without Tongue Tie

No blame could be apportioned

The National Horseracing Authority have advised that upon review of the patrol films of the TAB Gr2 Senor Santa Stakes run at Turffontein on 26 April 2025, it was established by the Stewards that Melech had not raced with a tongue tie during the event despite being carded to race fitted with this equipment.

Upon further investigation, which included an interview of the trainer, Officials that are tasked with the checking of equipment in the saddling area and parade ring, and the review of camera footage in the saddling area, it was confirmed that Melech had been fitted with a tongue tie upon being saddled and this piece of equipment was detached prior to the start being effected.

The official record will reflect that Melech raced without a tongue tie in this race.

Melech (4-1) was ridden by Gavin Lerena, ran 6th and 4,25 lengths behind the winner, Chasing Happiness.
