It’s that time of the year once again when two of the biggest clubs in La Liga and world football, Barcelona and Real Madrid, face each other in the El Clasico.
The first El Clasico of the season will take place at the Camp Nou on Sunday and it will be the first time in 11 years that the derby will be played without Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Spanish Super Cup in the beginning of the season (2-2 and 3-2 to Barcelona over two legs) may have provided a fiery and freescoring match in typical Clasico fashion between Madrid and Barca (and a bit of eye gouging, too), but the league clashes are what matter most and this Saturday provides the first head-to-head of the campaign between the two Spanish giants.
A man we are privileged to have known as a loyal friend of this great game and of the Sporting Post, a personal mate, and one of South African horseracing’s great characters, Shaheen Shaw, a husband, loving Dad and Grandad, passed away suddenly at the age of 55
The sad reality is that no matter who did what wrong, the Peter saga has been a scar on the SA horseracing landscape for far too long and besides the old favourite of justice delayed, it has lingered lengths ahead of KZN star Royal Victory’s big win in the 2023 renewal of the Highveld showpiece
