Queen’s horse misses out

The teenage French jockey Mickaël Barzalona announced his arrival as a world-class jockey by driving Pour Moi to a last-gasp success in the Derby, which he celebrated in equally dramatic style by standing up in his irons three strides before he crossed the line, inches ahead of Treasure Beach. The Queen’s horse, Carlton House, was sent off favourite but could finish only third.

A dozen potential Investec Derby heroes have joined the list of entries for the season’s premier Classic, staged over a mile and a half at Epsom Downs on Saturday June 4, worth £1.25 million.
