Tony Peter Supports Call To Open Inquiry To Public

Defendant steps up via his legal counsel

The call by a Sporting Post reader to have the Tony Peter Inquiry streamed live next week has been supported by the trainer.

In an open letter addressed to the Sporting Post Mailbag on Thursday 5 October 2023, Johannesburg-based racing enthusiast Jamal Farah called for the National Horseracing Authority to stream the hearing, in a matter which has attracted unprecedented interest, live to the public.

In a letter received at the Sporting Post offices on Friday, Attorney John Bolus confirms that he acts for and on behalf of Mr Tony Peter.

Mr Bolus confirmed that his client agrees that, the proceedings to take place on Thursday, 12 October 2023 and Friday, 13 October 2023 respectively, should be available to the racing public via a live virtual feed.

Alternatively, they suggest that members of the public and/or the press should be permitted to attend at the proceedings.

Mr Bolus writes that his client further believes that such access would be in the best interest of all of the parties concerned, and the sport of horse racing in general.

The Sporting Post wrote to the National Horseracing Authority on receipt of the Farah open letter, and is awaiting a response.

Were the NHA to open the Inquiry, it is believed that it would be a groundbreaking move in what has been a traditionally closed environment.
