Van Vuuren To Open The Bowling Today

First is off at 12h35

Eight races are carded on the Vaal Classic course this afternoon. The first is due off at 12h35 with the lucky last set for 16h25.

In-form trainer Johan Janse van Vuuren has enjoyed a super start to 2023 and saddles Bowl First in Race 3. He looks one of the best bets on the programme.

He has produced two good efforts to date. He raced from a handy position over 1450m on this course last time but found one too good in the form of Robert Burns. The son of Rabada should love the rise to the mile. Stable jockey Keagan de Melo takes the ride and in this type of field, he should take a power of beating.

Cool Winter from the Mike de Kock stable takes his place in the lucky last and he represents decent each way value.

His last two starts have been fair. He finished 2.25 lengths behind Stormy Seas in his penultimate run. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He takes a drop-in class today and with a bit of luck from barrier 12, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

Please note that Marco van Rensburg will not be taking up his engagements today.
