What A Weekend For Jenkinson!

Femminile won the Gr1 SA Derby at Morphettville on Saturday

A weekend that dreams are made of for Neil Jenkinson was capped off with Easter yearling Lubrication (I Am Invincible) winning the A$1m The Archer at Rockhampton on Sunday.

Bloodstock agent Jenkinson was still on a high from yesterday when a filly he was heavily involved with as a younger horse, Femminile, won the Gr1 South Australian Derby at Morphettville.

Fast forward barely 24 hours and his Easter yearling selection Lubrication reached a new career peak when victorious in his first A$1m race this afternoon.

Jenkinson teamed up with trainer Matt Dunn to buy Lubrication for A$400,000 at the 2021 Easter Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Kitchwin Hills.

Lubrication is bred by Neil Werrett, who remains in the ownership of the 5YO with Max Whitby, Steve Brown and others.

In an amazing result, Stephen Chia purchased a 10% share in Lubrication in the Inglis Digital April (Late) Online Sale just four days ago for A$8000 and has enjoyed an instant return.

“What a weekend,’’ a delighted Jenkinson said.

“Saturday was quite emotional to be honest. To be heavily involved in the breeding of a filly that wins a Derby is very special, I was so thrilled for Simon Delzoppo and the owners.

“And Lubrication just keeps going to a new level. I bought him at Easter and he was a really nice yearling that’s turned into a really nice racehorse. We’ve been saying all the way through that he’s going better this prep than any previous prep, he’s really matured and he travelled to Scone for the Country Champs Wildcard and then back to Sydney and now up to Rockhampton so he’s covered some miles too.’’

Lubrication, who will now likely target the Brisbane Winter Carnival, led in an Inglis graduates trifecta in The Archer, defeating Comrade Rosa and Transatlantic.

The next chance for buyers to invest in bloodstock is this week’s Breeding Stock Sales Series at Riverside with the Australian Weanling Sale (Monday & Tuesday), the Chairman’s Sale (Thursday) and the Australian Broodmare Sale (Friday).

Almost 800 lots have been catalogued for the week, which is highlighted by the Chairman’s sale where some of the best race fillies and mares of recent seasons will be offered like Bella Nipotina, Amelia’s Jewel, I Am Me, Too Darn Lizzie, Semana etc.
