WSB Grand Heritage – Something Quite Different

Countdown to Vaal - Saturday 11 December

The R300 000 World Sports Betting Grand Heritage (Non-Black Type) remains the most unique race in the country for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it is the only local race to comprise more than 20 runners.

Secondly, it is run over the unusual distance of 1475m.

Finally it is tailormade for lower-level horses to run for a big stake.

Top-class on his day, Mardi Gras is the highest rated galloper in the 2021 renewal (Pic – JC Photos)

This year 26 horses have been declared to run in the Grand Heritage which will take place up the Vaal straight on Saturday 11 December.

As is so often the case, this event looks to be wide open, and it gives punters the opportunity to catch some huge payouts.

As was the case in the Gauteng Summer Cup, runners from the Sean Tarry yard dominate the field and he will saddle seven.

In fact, two of his runners – Willow Express and Indlamu – are among the four horses at the top of bookmakers’ boards, and along with Approach Control and Bold Jazz, are quoted at 8-1.

Tarry has put Summer Cup winning jockey Calvin Habib on Willow Express,  while Gavin Lerena is aboard Indlamu.
