The Ideal World mare Rattle Mouse scored a courageous victory in Friday’s R150 000 Walmer Handicap at Fairview, when she dug deep under JP van der Merwe to give SA Champion owner Suzette Viljoen her 102nd winner.
The top three to finish are all daughters of the Mauritzfontein Kingmambo resident, Ideal World.

Described as ‘crazy as hell’ by an elated trainer Zietsman Oosthuizen, who bemoaned the fact that it wasn’t a black-type feature, the Rathmor Stud-bred mare vindicated her passionate conditioner’s faith when registering her fourth victory from 32 starts with 10 places, pushing her stakes bank up to nearly R310 000.
“Oom Japie (JP van der Merwe) rode a brilliant race. Thanks so much to Suzette and Basie for the patience too, “ added a happy Zietsman Oosthuizen, who said he was 9 winners short of hitting his career 100 winner mark this term.
Starting at 12-1, the consistent Rattle Mouse beat Sharon Kotzen’s pair of Wings Of Fire (12-1) and Ideal Angel 6-1, by a quarter length.
The fancied Golightly (13-10) gave Greg Cheyne a torrid time and finished out of the money.
The winner was a R250 000 National Yearling Sale buy, who started her career with Justin Snaith.
She is out of the one-time winning Alami mare, Rattled.
Hollywoodbets-sponsored Gavin Smith and jockey Warren Kennedy enjoyed a treble on the afternoon. Trainers Zietsman Oosthuizen and Jacques Strydom saddled two winners apiece.
The next Fairview racemeeting is on 15 July and is headlined by the Listed PE Gold Cup.
