Lyle Hewitson suffered a knee injury in a fall at Port Elizabeth on Friday, 20 July 2018.

Hewitson, who is the current leader on both the National and Apprentice Jockey logs, was dislodged from the Yvette Bremner runner, Press Release, on his way down to the start for race 1 on the Fairview card.

X-rays have revealed a fine chip on his left knee.

SA Academy Master, Robert Moore confirmed that Lyle will spend the night in PE and fly back to Johannesburg on Saturday for further medical consultation.

In the interim, Lyle will be stood down from all riding engagements until a formal diagnosis has been made.

We wish him a speedy recovery.
