Cape Guineas – Humdinger In The Making!

Alternate first leg of the SA Triple Crown

Nine out-of-province raiders were amongst the twenty five first entries received on Friday for the R1 million Gr1 Cape Guineas to be run at Kenilworth on Saturday 21 December.

The mile contest is the alternate first leg of the SA Triple Crown.

Sean Tarry and Mike de Kock, who won the race last year with Soqrat,  have shown their intentions of enjoying a big Cape summer and have six of the entries between them, including stakes winners Shango, Eden Roc and Frosted Gold.

Veteran trainer Vaughan Marshall, who trained his first Cape Guineas winner – as a then Natal based conditioner – 33 years ago when Michael Roberts poached the race on Sea Warrior, has two entries in Cape Classic winner Silver Operator and Cane Lime ‘n Soda – who stayed on but just out of the money in the Concorde Cup.

An interesting entry is Alan Greeff’s Ascot-bred Foreign Source, East Cape Champion juvenile of last term.  The son of Bold Silvano is a multiple stakes winner of 5 of his 10 starts at home.

Supplementary entries are due by 11h00 on Friday.

Declarations are due by 11h00 on Tuesday 17 December.
