Diadem Speed Duel

Run Fox Run is only filly in the 2020 renewal

The Cape Flying Championship top three of Russet Air, Bold Respect and Kasimir return for the R350 000 Khaya Stables Gr2 Diadem Stakes on the Cape Derby undercard.

The Diadem is run over 1200m.

The inaugural running of the Diadem WFA Stakes was on Saturday, 30 Nov 1957, when it was won by Mr J.W. Hill’s 3yo filly Tetrina.

Grant van Niekerk celebrates as Lanner Falcon wins the 2015 Diadem Stakes

It changed to a conditions race in 2015, when the fairer sex filled the top two places – Mike Bass-trained Lanner Falcon beating stablemate Fly By Night.

The only filly in the 2020 renewal is the Australian-bred Run Fox Run, who tasted defeat for the first time when finishing just over a length fourth in the Cape Flying Championship last time.
