For the first time since arriving in Japan, Hewitson ventured out of Tokyo and on Saturday rode at Hanshin Racecourse, which along with Kyoto, are the two biggest racecourses in western Japan.

Tabnews reports that the meeting did not start all that well for Hewitson but it all came together in Race 6 when he rode a positive race on three-year-old colt Misterioso.

This race was run on the dirt and as there had been some rain and the conditions were described as “muddy”, Hewitson wasted no time taking his mount to the head of affairs in this Plate race for three-year-olds over 1800m.

He turned for home some two lengths clear of his opposition and then drew off to beat Epicure by five lengths.

Misterioso paid 6.90 for a win and 2.00 for a place.

Later in the day Hewitson rode Al Jannah in the Gr3 Mainchi Hai over 1800m on the turf but fell short by 0.75 lengths to Satono Impresa who was second favourite.

On Sunday Hewitson will be travelling again and will be riding at Chukyo Racecourse in Toyoake which is close to the city of Nagoya.
