Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s national address on Sunday evening, life is poised to return to closer to normal, while horseracing in South Africa looks set for an imminent comeback behind closed doors.
Just moments after the speech, Snaith Racing announced on their Facebook page that Horse Racing in South Africa is set to resume on Monday 1 June, behind closed doors.
This after a 66-day absence due to national lockdown which nearly crippled the racing industry.
We would like to once again make special mention to all the owners for their incredible patience, they wrote.
There has been no official announcement from the NHA.
Ramaphosa announced that the entire country will move to level 3 of lockdown on 1 June.
This will entail the re-opening of most of the economy and would require most civil servants to return to work. The nationwide night-time curfew would also be lifted.
Ramaphosa said: “Alcohol may be sold for home consumption only under strict conditions, on specified days and for limited hours. Announcements in this regard will be made once we have concluded discussions with the sector on the various conditions.
“The sale of tobacco products will remain prohibited in alert level 3 due to the health risks associated with smoking.”
