29 yearlings on offer by Galileo

The 2014 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale kicks off with their Book 1 catalogue on Tuesday 7th October – Thursday 9th October (catalogue available at www.tattersalls.com).

The catalogue offers 471 yearling sale lots, all of which are eligible for the 2015/2016 Tattersalls Millions race series which comprises five races worth £1,300,000. It is expected that all eyes will be on the 29 yearlings by champion sire GALILEO.

The flagship Tattersalls sale has attracted a truly outstanding collection of yearlings, including own or half brothers and sisters to 42 Group 1 and Classic winners and 232 Group/Listed winners. Amongst the siblings to Classic and Group 1 winners are half-brothers to British, Irish and French Classic winners ATTRACTION, ELUSIVE WAVE, LATICE, LAWMAN, LEADING LIGHT and POWER, as well as half-sisters to BLUE BUNTING, DANCING RAIN, MOTIVATOR, POUR MOI and SPECIOSA. Also amongst the half brothers and sisters to Group 1 winners are half-brothers to top 2014 performers GALLANTE, INTEGRAL and PRINCE BISHOP and the half-sister to the outstanding sprinter SOLE POWER.

Twenty six Group 1 and Classic winning mares also have yearlings catalogued including proven Group and Listed producers ATTRACTION, CHORIST, ECHELON, ELLE DANZIG, FIELD OF HOPE, KINNAIRD, PEARLY SHELLS, REBELLINE, ZANZIBAR and ZEE ZEE TOP.

Sea The Stars

Sea The Stars has the highest rated 3yo colt and filly in Europe

All of the current top 20 active sires standing in Britain and Ireland are well represented with the two phenomenal half-brothers GALILEO and SEA THE STARS leading the way with 64 yearlings catalogued between them. SEA THE STARS, who currently boasts the highest rated three year old colt and filly in Europe, has 35 yearlings catalogued, while his superstar older half-brother has 29. Next in line amongst the top 20 active sires are NEW APPROACH with 28, OASIS DREAM with 25, ACCLAMATION with 19, IFFRAAJ with 18, INVINCIBLE SPIRIT with 17, PIVOTAL and EXCEED AND EXCEL with 16 apiece, SHAMARDAL with 15 and DUBAWI with 13. In total the top 20 active sires have more than 300 yearlings catalogued between them with the current top 10 accounting for a massive 185 yearlings. The much missed MONTJEU also leaves a legacy of four colts and two fillies from his last crop.

The nine first crop yearling sires represented are all Classic or Group 1 winners with 10 yearlings by Champion Sprinter DREAM AHEAD, eight by POET’S VOICE and Derby winner POUR MOI and seven by Champion miler CANFORD CLIFFS.

Overseas based sires traditionally play a prominent role at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale and ARCH, ELUSIVE QUALITY, ESKENDEREYA, EXCHANGE RATE, GIANT’S CAUSEWAY, HAT TRICK, KITTEN’S JOY, LEMON DROP KID, MONSUN, MOTIVATOR, SPEIGHTSTOWN, STORMY ATLANTIC, STREET CRY and WAR FRONT give the catalogue its customary international appeal.

As last year the largest consignments from Britain and Ireland come from Highclere Stud and The Castlebridge Consignment with 35 and 30 yearlings respectively. Lodge Park Stud, which sold last year’s 5 million guineas sale topper, has an elite band of three colts by GALILEO, NEW APPROACH and DREAM AHEAD and a filly by SEA THE STARS. Newsells Park Stud, which filled last year’s runner up spot, has an impressive draft of 19 yearlings comprising 11 colts and eight fillies.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony

Commenting on the catalogue for Book 1 of the 2014 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said “This is a truly outstanding catalogue, as befits Europe’s premier yearling sale. Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale is the only yearling sale in the world to produce a 2014 British or Irish Classic winner and the likes of Derby winner AUSTRALIA and 32,000 guineas 2000 Guineas winner NIGHT OF THUNDER show why this particular sale is the primary target for so many of the world’s leading owners.

There have been three October Book 1 Guineas winners bought for 50,000 guineas or less since 2012, which underlines the extraordinary quality to be found at all levels of the sale, and this year’s catalogue has all the ingredients to appeal to a wide cross section of international buyers. Not only is Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale the world’s number one source of European Classic winners, it also boasts the only contenders for the five Tattersalls Millions races which are worth £1,300,000 between them.”
